Our Program

With 17 years of teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to refine my approach by blending time-tested classical methods with innovative strategies I have developed along the way. I incorporate technology to enhance the learning experience and tailor each lesson to meet the unique needs and goals of my students. Over the years, I have discovered what works - and what doesn’t - allowing me to create a well-rounded, engaging, and effective program that inspires growth and confidence in every student.

Custom Goals Plans

To ensure steady progress and lasting success, I work closely with each student to set both short-term and long-term goals. Every two months, we establish four personalized goals, chosen from categories such as repertoire, technique, sight reading, theory, and ear tests. These short-term goals serve as stepping stones toward achieving bigger milestones, keeping students motivated and focused. To encourage dedication and consistency, I offer exciting incentives for those who successfully complete all their goals. This structured yet flexible approach helps students stay engaged, build confidence, and develop a well-rounded skill set.

Recitals

Our studio hosts two recitals each year - one before Christmas and another in late spring - giving students the opportunity to showcase the hard work and dedication they’ve put into their playing. Performing is not only a chance to share their progress but also an important tool for building confidence, discipline, and resilience under pressure. Our recitals are a celebration of growth, creativity, and achievement for every student.

Customized Digital Learning Materials for Each Student

While many music theory concepts are introduced naturally through new pieces, regular review is essential for reinforcing understanding. To make this process more efficient, I have created personalized digital flashcards for each student, accessible through a customized Google Slides document. This approach not only eliminates the hassle of sorting through stacks of paper flashcards but also allows me to track how each student processes and recalls information. By identifying patterns and pinpointing weaker areas, I can tailor my teaching to strengthen their understanding and boost their confidence.

Exams and Local Competitions

For students who thrive on a challenge, I offer opportunities to participate in local competitions, such as the Kiwanis Music Festival of London, and prepare them for Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams. Working toward an exam or competition is a powerful motivator, encouraging students to put in extra practice and elevate their playing to their personal best. These experiences also provide valuable feedback from adjudicators, helping students refine their skills and gain a deeper understanding of their musical progress.

Practice Notes

To help students practice effectively and build a consistent routine, I provide customized practice notes after each lesson. Depending on the student’s age, level, and learning style, this may be a detailed list outlining specific areas to focus on, including target tempos and techniques, or a simple checklist covering everything that needs attention. These notes are shared via Google Docs, allowing students to access them online or receive a printed copy—making it impossible to forget what to practice! This system encourages purposeful practice, helping students stay organized, motivated, and on track toward their goals.

Studio Challenges, Contests, Workshops and More

Throughout the year, I offer a variety of fun and engaging events to keep students motivated and excited about their musical journey. From festive challenges like the Christmas Songs Challenge - where students who learn and perform four Christmas pieces earn a prize - to creative events like outdoor performances with spooky decorations, there is always something exciting happening in the studio. Workshops and contests provide additional opportunities for students to develop their skills in a fun, supportive environment. These events help foster a strong sense of community while inspiring students to push their creativity and musicianship to new levels.
